The Future of Aviation & Air Travel

Future of Aviation

Posted By: Admin 25 Feb, 2021

The Aviation and Air Travel industry have and continue to experience numerous changes. Since the technology is advancing at a very rapid pace, airplane manufacturers and airlines have so much to accomplish to keep up.

The fact that it can take up to a decade for an airplane before it can take its first flight puts lots of pressure on airplane manufacturers to stay even with all of the changes. Numerous changes in the industry have taken place over the past few decades.

For example, new hardware and software have been designed to facilitate operations in the air travel industry. Allegiant Airlines booking online is now possible, easy, and quick. The online booking facility alone has taken the industry to another level and much more is yet to come. So,

What is the Future of Aviation and Air Travel?

Engine Efficiency and Carbon Emissions

Air travel produces a large amount of air pollution. As the number of passengers is expected to double by the year 2025, the amount of carbon dioxide emitted into the air is predicted to increase by 300% by the same year if airplane manufacturers fail to do something quickly.

The manufacturers need to create more fuel-efficient engines and reduce carbon emissions. Though compared to the old models, the new aircraft produces up to 80% less carbon dioxide emissions.

However, newer models are expected to offer even more efficiency. That is because they come with improved engines and aerodynamics. They are also constructed of lighter materials, which mean lighter airplanes that burn out less fuel.

New models of aircraft are also expected to utilize alternative fuels, which can improve their efficiency by 15% and reduce emissions by up to 70%.

Electric Planes

Though this may be a big surprise to many of us, there are hopes for electric planes finally getting ready for daily aviation. However, we may have to put up with our ‘old’ technology before we can be able to make this significant step to have electric planes finally flying and taking on 200 to 300 passengers.

Electric planes are expected to significantly cut down the cost of flying, which could be a game-changer for the airlines and aviation industry. But, according to experts, we may spend up to the next 50 years before we can witness a full long-haul flight in an electric plane.

Better Contingency Plans

Travel businesses need to have improved contingency plans. For instance, the airlines experience a huge blow due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Most of the travel organizations realized that they are not ready for macroeconomic disturbances. Nearly all airlines were forced to shut down their operations by the pandemic. Only a few (if any) were prepared with a well-laid contingency plan.

With that in mind, airlines need to come up with a strategy that can equip them with the power to overcome unexpected situations like:

  • Closed borders – We witnessed a lot of closed borders and skies during the pandemic and the worst thing was that the closing could happen at any time. That resulted in huge losses for the travel companies that didn’t have a well-formulated contingency plan in place.
  • Pollution and Climate Change – As mentioned, the number of air travelers is expected to double by 2025. That also means that we may witness increased carbon emissions if nothing is done to avert the situation. And with the increased concerns about pollution and change in climate, people may start using alternatives to air travel for their traveling. That can impact heavily on the airplane and airline industry.
  • Terrorism-related turbulences – Terrorist events take place regularly and are likely to increase with the improving technology. For that, airlines must tighten their security to ensure that their customers are safe while they travel.

Hassle-Free Travel Experience

Compared to decades ago, it’s possible to travel nearly 14,000 km across the globe in less than 12 hours. Though that may sound pretty convenient, there are still lots of hassles and stressors experienced by travelers. For instance:

  • The annoying and never-ending queues at the airports
  • Questionable security of the airlines
  • Slow and inaccurate operating systems used by airlines’ employees, etc.

Fortunately, the airlines are now taking advantage of the advancing technology to overcome some of these problems. That, in return, is enhancing the experience of travelers. You may realize this while doing your United Airlines booking.

The security at the airports has been a huge concern for most travelers. However, the new technology has enabled travel companies to install several security measures such as facial recognition, tokens, robotics, molecular scanning, and many more that are meant to improve security and reduce the tedious and time-consuming work done by security personnel at the airports. Airlines need to ensure improved collaboration among them to improve security and be able to offer clients enjoyable and safe travel experiences.

As you can see, there are many changes and transformations that we are likely to witness in the aviation and air travel industry as years go by. Though some of the changes like long-haul flights in an electric plane could take several decades to come true, others like security and travel convenience are already taking effect.
